Frequently Asked Questions

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a collaborative process where you work with a trained therapist to better understand your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Therapy provides a supportive space to explore challenges, build coping strategies, and develop new ways of relating to yourself and others.
Many people seek psychotherapy to help with concerns such as anxiety, burnout, depression, ADHD, relationship challenges, life transitions, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve them.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy can be helpful if you are feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck, or navigating a difficult period in your life. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.
Many people seek therapy when they want to:
  • Understand their patterns and behaviours
  • Improve emotional regulation
  • Work through anxiety or burnout
  • Navigate relationships or life transitions
  • Build a stronger connection with themselves
If you’re unsure, a consultation can help determine whether therapy may be a good fit for you.

Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?

No. A formal diagnosis is not required to begin therapy.
Many people seek therapy simply because they want support, clarity, or space to process what they are experiencing. Therapy can be helpful whether you have a specific diagnosis or are simply navigating stress, anxiety, burnout, or personal growth.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Therapy is confidential, which means what you share in sessions is kept private.
There are a few legal and ethical exceptions to confidentiality that therapists must follow, such as situations involving risk of harm to yourself or others, or when required by law. Your therapist will explain these limits at the beginning of your work together.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. We offer secure online psychotherapy sessions for clients across Ontario.
Online therapy allows you to attend sessions from the comfort of your own home or another private space, making it easier to access support even with a busy schedule.

How long are therapy sessions?

Most therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length and are scheduled within a one-hour appointment.
Your therapist will work with you to determine a session frequency that best supports your needs and goals. Many clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum in therapy, while others attend biweekly or monthly sessions depending on their circumstances and the stage of their work.

How long does therapy usually last?

The length of therapy varies depending on each person’s goals, needs, and the nature of what they are working through.
Some clients attend therapy for a few months to address a specific challenge or transition, while others choose to continue longer-term to deepen their self-understanding and support ongoing personal growth.
Therapy is a collaborative process, and you and your therapist will regularly check in about what is most helpful and whether the current pace and focus of therapy continue to meet your needs.
